CBD & Me: How Much Is Too Much?
New year, new supplements—right? If you’re new to the CBD scene, or just brushing up on your CBD knowledge, and you’re wondering how much is too much, you’ve come to the right place.
Can You Take Too Much CBD?
Don’t worry, you’re definitely not the only one wondering. In fact, this is a very common question. The short answer is, no. At least, too much CBD won’t cause a deadly reaction. However, studies have shown that consuming too much CBD can cause you to feel lethargic, confused, and make your mouth feel excessively dry.
We should caution you that ongoing research is still needed to determine the exact amount of CBD that could cause life-threatening symptoms to you. According to a 2011 study published in the Current Drug Safety, in order for CBD to be toxic to your system, you would need to ingest upwards of 20,000mg of CBD in a very short amount of time. Still, it’s important to note that you should be mindful of the dosage that you consume, and avoid popping gummy after gummy (we know, they’re delicious!).
How Much CBD Should You Take?
CBD dosage varies from person to person and can depend on a variety of factors. High-quality products will always provide a recommended dosage, which you should be cognizant of when utilizing. We recommend when you first try a product to half the recommended dosage to get a feel for how you will react to a product.
After you are comfortable with a product, consider a few of these recommendations when determining the appropriate dosage for yourself.
The concentration refers to the strength of the total amount of CBD in a product and is commonly measured in milligrams. You should be able to easily determine the concentration of a product by reviewing the label. For example, A88CBD™ Oil Tincture contains 300mg of CBD per 2 fl. oz bottle and has a recommended dosage of ½ dropperful. If you’re having a hard time determining the concentration, it’s best to avoid using it until you do as a safety precaution.
When considering how much CBD you should consume, it’s important to be mindful of your body weight. Depending on your body weight, you may need less than or more than the recommended dosage. As stated previously, we always recommend starting with less than the recommended amount and work your way up as needed.
Undoubtedly, there are tons of CBD products on the market to choose from. While it may be tempting to reach for the cheapest products you can find, it can be indicative of low-quality, and low-potency. When choosing the correct CBD product for you, be sure to take a good look at the label and look for keywords like pure cannabidiol, certified CBD, and hemp-derived to determine the best high-quality products for you.
