Does CBD Help with Sleep?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, has been linked to multiple health benefits. Many believe that it can aid in the ability to sleep—keep reading to learn more.

What Prevents Restful Sleep?

There are numerous factors that prevent restful sleep for many of us. If you sleep through the night with ease, you are one of the lucky ones. Luckily, for those of us that struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep, research is showing that CBD can improve sleep and help you get the rest your body desperately needs.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a few reasons you may not sleep well include:

  • Mental health conditions such as anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and depression
  • Taking medications that disturb your sleep cycles
  • Conditions that cause chronic pain or discomfort such as restless leg syndrome
  • Consuming copious amounts of caffeine, especially later in the day
  • Environmental factors such as noise and temperature

These factors are common and luckily, new research is suggesting the CBD may help to support your body and help your body find rest.

What Do The Studies Say?

Ongoing research in the CBD industry has lead to numerous discoveries that infer that CBD can play a vital role in maintaining health and wellness.

One study, in particular, focused on whether or not CBD could help to improve sleep and overall wellbeing. This study used 72 subjects, with 47 participants experiencing anxiety and 25 struggling with sleep. Each participant was provided 25mg of CBD in the form of a capsule. After only one month of daily use, 79.2% of the participants reported lower feelings of anxiety, and 66.7% stated that their sleep had improved.

Another study stated, “CBD has demonstrated preliminary efficacy for a range of physical and mental health care problems.”  In recent years, more and more studies have been shared that is indicative of the benefits that CBD provides users. While ongoing research is still needed to further support the finding, the belief that CBD can help overall wellness, suggests that sleep can be positively influenced as well.

How Should You Use CBD?

There are many different methods of taking CBD, so you should research and determine which one is the best fit for you. Some of the options include:

  • Oil Tinctures
  • Capsules
  • Gummies
  • Vape Concentrates

When first starting, be mindful of the suggested dosage that is recommended. You may want to start with half a dose and work your way up if you are brand new to CBD. Remember, your body plays a role in how the CBD effects you. Your weight, body chemistry, and nature of sleep troubles all determine how the CBD will work in your body.

It is important to note that studies suggest showing that there have been, “no reports of lethal overdose with either of the cannabinoids and, outside of concerns over abuse, major complications are very limited.” In addition, it has been shown that research suggests that cannabis has a low overall risk.

If you struggle with sleep, consider implementing CBD into your wellness routine for added sleep support.
